UNIT 6

Page 93 Exercise 2.

When is the last time you tired a completely new type of food? What was it? Did you enjoy it or not?

SOLUTION

-The last time I ate something weird was at a party with my family and the food was Tacos.

A taco is a traditional Mexican dish consisting of a small hand-sized corn or wheat tortilla topped with a filling. The tortilla is then folded around the filling and eaten by hand. A taco can be made with a variety of fillings, including beef, pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables, and cheese, allowing great versatility and variety. I liked it a lot and I would like to eat it again.

Page 95 Exercise 3.

Do you waste food at school or at home? if so, how much? Why would you throw food away?

SOLUTION

- In my house I throw some food which is rice, but we don't like rice, I would not throw any other type of food because it is very unfair to the Earth, which has had to grow those foods, like a mother who is gestating a son; and it is unfair to those who go hungry in the world, who are a very heterogeneous group that we almost never put on, but they exist, and they are there, sometimes closer to what we believe. And if it's true, if you really believe that we are all one on this Earth, you will believe that being unfair to others is also unfair to you.

Page 96 Exercise 6.

-Imagine you want to open a restaurant. How can you avoid food waste? Make a list of at least five ideas?

SOLUTION
give away leftovers to people who live on the street

-Buy only what you need: Be smart with your purchases. Make a list of what you need and try to follow it. Do not buy more than you can consume.

-Leave prejudices aside: Buy "ugly" or irregular fruits and vegetables. They are equally good, but a little different.

-First to enter, first to leave: Try using products that you had previously bought. Move the oldest products to the front and place the newest ones on the back.
Check your refrigerator: Store food at a temperature between 1 and 5 degrees Celsius for maximum freshness and shelf life.

-Understand the dates: "Consume before" indicates a date on which the food is safe to be consumed, while "Consume preferably before" means that the quality of the food is better before that date, but remains safe for consumption after this. Another date that can be found on food packages is that of "Expiration", which is useful for inventory turnover for manufacturers and retailers.

 Page 105 Exercise 35.

Why do peope throw food away? Write about least three different causes of food waste.

SOLUTION
The main causes for waste in this phase are: The myth of perfection - there is the ide look perfect on the shelf, the fruit of high quality sensors that emphasize too much the appearance of food, that causes an immense discard from the early stages of the collection process and problems in the storage and packaging process.

Causes:
-Lack of interest and political commitment of administrations at different levels.

-The great geographical distance between food producers and consumers means that food has to travel many kilometers and, therefore, reduces its useful life when arriving at the final destination.

-That distance also generates ignorance between the first phases, production, and the last, consumption, which causes “quantitative lags between production and consumption,“ inadequate product selection ”or“ food preferences of consumers that do not fit well with the productive cycles.

SOLUTION
- Technology is very powerful and nothing is as good as technology at improving life. Even though this is both good on paper and on the surface there are drawbacks to this. Technology can affect life both positively and negatively. New technology always changes our life very much and takes it to a new level. It is like the new way of thinking or doing the normal things differently, better and much
more faster with less hassle and at a much affordable rate. Imagine life before Electricity, Life before the Automobile, life before the Telephone, life before the Computer, Before those technologies life was much less complex but it was at the same time very difficult to get many things done with just the twelve hours of visible light that we are given with each day.
